Vienna Police Dragons
This year the Vienna Police Sport Association will be 100 years old. The home of our club is in the most beautiful part of Vienna at the Old Danube in the 22nd district.
First we only had kayak and canoe with which we won at least 3 Olympic medals in the 1930s and 1950s.
In 1998 the first dragonboat race took place in Vienna, in which our club took part. This was the beginning of dragonboat sport in our club and also in Austria. We won this very first race against a rowing-team.
In the following year we won the Austrian Dragonboat-Cup and the Austrian Championship.
We don´t have a lot of dragonboat-racing teams in Austria, so we have to go to Hungary or to the Czech Republic to compete against other teams. Our club is also organiser of the Vienna Dragon Boat Festival which takes place every year in September.
Since 2011 our team is called the “Vienna Police Dragons“ – we won the dragonboat race in Raabs (Lower Austria) four times and also in Litschau (Lower Austria).
In 2017 we won the Austrian Championship fort he forth time and the Dragonboat Festival Vienna,
competing against teams from Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovakia.
We are a mixed team, with people of all ages. Our youngest team member is 23 years old, while our steersman is already 75 years old.
